Using the sandpaper, gently sand the edges of the tip and joint to make it smooth. If you used a slightly larger tip, you may need to do a little more work to even it out with the shaft. Rotate the shaft slowly while holding the sandpaper over the ferrule and tip to get it smooth. Change to the finer grit sandpaper as need, and finish with the
The speed differences may be minor but they all require an adjustment to stroke to accomplish the same amount of follow, draw or english for a given stroke speed. A good example showing the difference in speed is the use of the extra hard phenolic tip used to obtain more cue ball speed than a leather tip can when breaking.
Leather tips are better for control, but Phenolic tips, which are harder, are better for power and/or lift when jumping. I have a J&J Break/Jump cue with a phenolic ferrule/tip combination that I like a lot, and they can be bought for $60/65 dollars. Phenolic tips do some getting used to though, and almost require a center ball hit. A
This is a glass fiber that is also in a resin, so the final product is even harder than linen phenolic. With the leather-based tips, you can have them installed just like any normal tip. The cushion of the leather material, even with the super hard leather break tips, is enough to preserve the bond of the glue holding it on.

20. Keep your cue level. Ideally, at the moment your cue tip hits the cue ball, you want your forearm to be perpendicular (at a 90-degree angle) to your cue. "You're in the middle of the range of motion," says Shawn Putnam. "You've started accelerating, but you're not running out of stroke yet."
Phenolic Tips. These are hard cue tips that are constructed out of carbon fibre. They are almost as hard as the balls themselves. This kind of cue tip can transfer the maximum amount of energy in a single shot. They are therefore used for breaking shots in a game. It is rare that a player will choose to play an entire game with a phenolic tip.

I use a hard leather tip as well. When I used to use a phenolic tip on my breaker, I noticed there were micro chips and cracks in my cue ball; ever since switching to hard leather tip, I find I get more control and the same amount of breaking power too.
Oct 8, 2009. #1. I have a Jerico Bacote Stinger that I bought several years ago. Well I have decided to play on a BCA 8 ball league and had to change the phenolic tip to leather. I never knew how much of a mess someone could do just changing a tip. I went to a local poolhall that I play in and since they do cue repairs I brought in a Samsara J

I believe that the synthetic tips do outperform the leather tips on break cues as far as breaking the rack open and pocketing balls. My average number of balls jumped up after I switched to phenolic. It is harder for me to control the cue ball on the break with the phenolic tip or at least it was in the beginning.
September 12, 2022 By FCI Billiards Choosing the best pool cue tips for your playing style is one of the most important choices you can make to improve your game. The pool cue tip is where all the energy from your cue is transferred to the cue ball (with some help from chalk) to create accuracy, spin and speed in every shot. When combined with a good shaft, even average players can immediately
Leave .020″ of the brown phenolic before gluing on the replacement tip. SHAFT MAINTENANCE. To clean your Poison shaft, use a towel slightly dampened with rubbing alcohol. After cleaning, use a leather burnisher or similar material to seal the shaft. Using a Carnuba wax may also help to seal the shaft and protect it from moisture.
When the cue ball is hitting the rack, it is seeing an up to 15x weight implied difference. Hard to explain but when the cue ball hits the rack, the forces there should be 5x greater than when the cue stick hits the cue ball. Nope, it's the break shaft/tip. Hard phenolic tips will do, G10 even more so.

Break cue ferrules should also fall under this same advice. Avoid the cues with cheap plastic ferrules and consider having any break cue ferrule upgraded to phenolic or G-10. -Leather tip vs phenolic vs G-10 material? All of these options are viable, and your choice should depend on several factors.
To wit, phenolic tip vs mushy tip. Or possibly, the control a shooter programmed into the stroke "long" before the moment of impact. Here's the physical experiment: Set up a robot (or spring) with accurate ball placement and control The tip for the experiment shall be a common leather cue tip. Soft would favor my argument but even a "hard
If you have a one piece tip/ferrule, you can have the "tip" portion of it cut off/flattened like a regular ferrule and install a tip on it. If you don't want phenolic, I would suggest a Samsara break/jump (extra hard layered leather) or maybe a Taom. You could also send it in to PoolDawg and they'll take care of it for you.

BCAPL Phenolic Tip Ruling Hi Guys, Just My thought - I am new to this entire pool arena so I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing all around. I've already put a hard leather tip on my phenolic ferrule (Bill Stroud did say this would be allowed) and am very happy with the way it breaks and jumps. mrgoochio pool hall junkey
Navigator tips are made using 100% Japanese pigskin leather. They are laminated and pressed utilizing a specialized method, which features a proprietary adhesive that won't affect the leather's hardness. The Navigator Break Impact is a hybrid phenolic break tip. Most phenolic tips are designed to generate power, but at the cost of cue ball

The two most common types of tips incorporated in break cues are the leather and Phenolic tips. Personally I would recommend the Phenolic tips as they are usually the harder type of tip. When breaking you want a super hard tip for transferring the energy from the cue tip to the cue ball, while still maintaining proper grip and control over the
